Resumo

On this analysis we discuss the dialogue between literature and history in the works Nação Crioula: a correspondência secreta de Fradique Mendes of José Eduardo Agualusa (2001). By this way, we aim to analyse the discursive set between history and fiction from the schemes of narration and the author experiences. The mestizo characteristic that is manifested within the narrative when Carlos Fradique Mendes leaves from Portugal to the African continent and then to Brazil has as influence to the trajectory literary till now travelled by José Eduardo Agualusa. The Portuguese-African literature produced by Agualusa, as can be seen in “Nação Crioula”, reflects the socio-political issues of Angola from the views of the history of their people. It is emphasized the dialogue that is formed between the literatures existent in the figure of Fradique. This uncanny character first appears on the works of Eça de Queirós, “Correspondência de Fradique Mendes” (1900) and, later, in 1997, in the novel of José Eduardo Agualusa “Nação Crioula: correspondência secreta de Fradique Mendes”. The literary and historical discourse concepts are developed on Pesavento (2003), White (1995), Barthes (2004) and D'onofrio (1999) studies.
