O ateneu: uma leitura sob a ótica da crítica psicanalítica

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to exercise the psychoanalytic criticism in the text of The Athenaeum, by Raul Pompeia, considered one of the great works of Brazilian literature, published in 1888, within the period considered realist-naturalist. From readings of texts related to psychoanalytic criticism and after briefly situating the author in the literary context of the time, we will observe the images related to femininity and masculinity, from some basic theories of psychoanalysis, such as those proposed by Freud and Lacan, understanding the text as a manifestation of the unconscious and in its literary specificities.
