Resumo

The History of Mathematics is still little used as a school teaching trend. Based on this premise we conducted a qualitative research in order to understand the concerns of mathematics teachers in relation to the use of the History of Mathematics as mathematics teaching methodology in the 6th year of Elementary School. The research had as data construction techniques the analysis of textbooks used by teachers, the analysis of documents governing Brazilian education and the document that guides teacher training and the application of a questionnaire for teachers. The theoretical basis of the research is based on authors such as Mendes and Chaquiam (2016), D'Ambrosio (2008, 1999) and Silveira (2018). The results indicate that, in reality investigated, we still have a long way to go for the History of Mathematics to be understood and used effectively as a methodology for teaching mathematics.
