Resumo
The present study aims to understand the scientific view of naturalistic travelers who traveled
the Solimões River in the 19th century, in search of studying not only the fauna and flora, but
also its inhabitants. These scholars, shaken by the success of the natural sciences, set out in
search of new discoveries, towards the furthest corners, one of which was the Solimões River.
The naturalists, who went to this part of the Solimões, were botanists, zoologists, entomologists,
geologists, in short, scientists from the natural sciences, who were concerned with meeting the
demands and professional purposes, with which they were directly committed, because it would
be up to them describe everything that was on the way. In addition, the work shows how the
population of this region was analyzed by these men of science who spent years traversing its
rivers in search of collecting data from their population and took it to their countries of origin.
