Resumo
Often, spirituality and religiosity are treated as synonyms, even among nursing
professionals, and this confusion is not accidental: it stems primarily from the fact that it
is a topic rarely addressed during academic training. Given these premises, and the social
and scientific relevance of the spiritual dimension in care, the objective of this review is
to analyze how spirituality has been addressed in academic nursing training. This is a
descriptive study, a narrative literature review. To synthesize the objectives, the main
results and conclusions presented in the retrieved studies emerged from three thematic
axes: Pedagogical methodologies and spirituality in nursing education; Inclusion of
spirituality in the undergraduate curriculum; and Perceptions and challenges in addressing
the topic among nursing students and professionals. Therefore, it becomes essential to
analyze the pedagogical guidelines of undergraduate education in order to integrate
spirituality as a transversal axis in the teaching-learning process.
