To evaluate the process of administering blood components carried out by the nursing team of a public health institution. Methodology: Cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach carried out in a public health institution. For data collection, a checklist was created with previously defined standards and requirements for carrying out blood and component transfusions, which was completed during the period of observation of practices carried out by the nursing team and analyzed using GraphPad Prism version 5.0. Results: The items that made up the checklist were identified, divided into four moments: pre-transfusion care, transfusion care, post-transfusion care and transfusion reaction care. Analyzing the transfusion procedures, non-compliance was identified in the pre-transfusion and transfusion periods, mainly in transfusions of packed red blood cells. Conclusion: The present work highlights the non-compliance with certain precautions at specific moments of the procedure, it is noted that although professionals have the appropriate knowledge, there are still neglects in care considered fundamental to guarantee transfusion safety
