Resumo

The present study has as main objective to understand the process of communication between hearing teachers and deaf academics in a Public University of Parintins, in which we base theoretical contributions as: Quadros & Karnopp, (2004), Santana (2007), Skliar 2001), Melo (2013), Mazzota (2003), these authors bring us relevant research about this inclusive and still challenging university process among deaf academics, interpreters and lecturers. The methodology is qualitative, with a dialectical approach in which we try to discuss during the thematic presented possible challenges experienced by these hearing professionals in higher education, as well as for deaf academics. Thus, the article reveals that the Sign Language is not a priority for public policies in Brazil and this is reflected within the institution researched, consequently the hearing teachers do not understand about the deaf subject, much less their linguistic rights while citizen, so their communication is built on the support of the professional interpreter.
