Resumo
This paper aims to show how traditional knowledge passed down orally interacts with the environmental education of students at the Pedro Pedrosa de Carvalho Municipal School in the Ariaú District of the municipality of Barreirinha/AM. This is a community with Quilombola traits and its social characteristics are the result of the miscegenation of indigenous people, blacks and Portuguese, resulting in the construction of a range of learning that over the years is passed down from parents to children through informal communication, capable of contributing to contemporary society, which is currently experiencing an unprecedented environmental crisis caused by the unsustainable consumption of natural resources. The knowledge of traditional communities can transform society's knowledge and practices regarding the environment, which may have a positive impact on socio-environmental systems over time. The qualitative research used a phenomenological approach to understand the perception of the subjects involved on how the capacity for conscious use of natural resources is built in this community. The results indicate that the relationship established between the knowledge of traditional populations and environmental education has precepts that prioritize the maintenance of life in all its forms and that the removal of natural resources when necessary aims primarily at providing the population with a better quality of life.
