Resumo

Internal combustion engine controllers reflect the technological advancement of the automotive industry in recent decades. This control went from a fully mechanical carburetors to a complex system of sensors, actuators and controller unit. This research studies the electronic fuel injection system in a gasoline internal combustion engine made by BMW model M50TUB25 and replace this system with a faster, more modern and reliable programmable controller to explore the best performance that the engine can output. The best programmable injection system available on the market for this project is researched and analyzed aiming the best performance, usage and low maintenance cost. Fuel delivery components are dimensioned to use ethanol and a higher power output. Calibration of this engine is studied using ethanol, a higher-octane fuel, analyzing each fuel injection parameter and timing advance curve and what it means and how it alters engine operation. The advantage of using a programmable electronic fuel injection system in an older car, which has older components and designs and has been calibrated to a fuel composition that is no longer found today, is proven to be advantageous.
