Abstract

In this work, we elected three short stories by Milton Hatoum, present in his first collection of the genre, A cidade ilhada (2009). We aim to understand how the narrators, present in the short stories "Varandas da Eva", "Uma Estrangeira da nossa rua" and "Dois tempos", work the fabric of memory. The theoretical foundations of this work are structured in the framework of the relationship between memory and narrative, especially from the theoretical postulates of Paul Ricouer (1994) and Walter Benjamin (1994). Our conclusions point out that the short story genre gives, in a certain way, more freedom to the writer, through its narrators, to carry out a walk through memory.
