Entre gênero e poder: feminismo, redemocratização e a trajetória política de Vanessa Grazziotin em Manaus (1980–1990)

Abstract

Since antiquity, different societies have sought to subjugate women to men, producing power relations that also permeate historical narratives, in which male protagonism has been privileged to the detriment of female experiences. Twentieth-century historiography, driven by political and social transformations and the advances of the feminist movement, broadened its field of analysis by incorporating new subjects, problems, and perspectives, among them women and their forms of participation in public life. This work discusses the female protagonism in the political trajectory of Vanessa Grazziotin, analyzing her involvement in the student, union, and party movements, as well as her institutional role in Amazonas during the redemocratization process. Public accounts of her actions reveal both the advancement of female participation in politics and the obstacles imposed by gender inequalities and the persistence of patriarchy in a context marked by surveillance, conservatism, and symbolic disputes. By revisiting their trajectory, the study highlights the tensions and achievements that marked the inclusion of women in institutional spaces in the Amazon amidst the transformations of Brazilian redemocratization.
