Resumo
Birds constitute 25% of the total number of vertebrates present in the world. With
approximately 11,000 species recorded, birds play a very important role in
dealing with interactions with the environment: they carry out seed dispersal, pollination,
they aid in the decomposition of dead matter and serve as a biological pest controller.
Because they play a key role in maintaining natural ecosystems, birds are
very sensitive to anthropogenic interference. The study of the urban avifauna of Manaus can
determine the status of the city's environmental quality using birds as indicators
of good condition, as they respond almost simultaneously to changes in the environment.
environment. Thus, bird species were recorded in two urban locations in
Manaus, mini campus of UFAM and Escola Normal Superior – ENS of UEA. the visual record
and a photograph of the species was carried out in the car parking area. Were
made a comparison of the bird species composition of these sample areas. Were
26 species were found in UFAM and 25 species in ENS / UEA, being 19 species in
common to both areas. In the total of the two areas, the most registered were: Psittacara
leucophthalmus (32), Columbina passerina (32), Brotogeris versicolurus (21), Psarocolius
decumanus (16), Pitangus sulphuratus (16), Tyrannus melancholicus (15), Patagioenas
cayennensis (14) and Ammodramus aurifrons (14). The greatest species richness at UFAM
it is probably related to the area of forest present, even if secondary and with several
alterations, such as deforestation and built-up areas on the university campus. In the area of ENS
/ UEA the species observed are those common in urbanized and open environments, such as
Pitangus sulphuratus, Tyrannus melancholicus, Tangara episcopus and Ammodramus
auriphrons.
