Abstract

This study explores the continuity and challenges faced by traditional crafts, understood as a cultural practice rooted in the intergenerational transmission of knowledge and techniques. Handicraft production, using materials such as straw, vines, clay, and wood, represents not only an aesthetic and functional expression but also an element of identity and cultural resistance. However, factors such as the scarcity of raw materials, competition with industrialized products, and the disinterest of new generations threaten its perpetuation. The research highlights testimonies from artisans that reinforce the importance of the craft as an intergenerational legacy, essential for maintaining collective memory and the sustainability of the communities involved. Furthermore, it discusses strategies for valuing and ensuring the continuity of these practices, including public incentive policies, community support networks, and the use of new technologies for the promotion and commercialization of products. It concludes that the preservation of traditional crafts depends on a balance between innovation and respect for popular knowledge, guaranteeing its relevance for future generations.
