Resumo

This study seeks to understand the organization of the 2018 strike by state teachers in Amazonas, specifically in the municipality of Parintins. It analyzes how the movement gained strength from the initiative of both unionized and non-unionized teachers, and how, through the pressure they exerted, it became an organized grassroots movement that forced the teachers' union to join. The research also analyzes class consciousness and problematizes how teachers felt about salary injustices and how this relates to the process of resuming strike movements by teachers in the state of Amazonas, and specifically in Parintins. To demonstrate that the organized and successful construction of a grassroots movement is possible, we used the methodology of Oral History to understand the entire process and organization of the movement, based on the testimonies of teachers who participated in the strike at different times and in different positions, drawing on reflections on collective memory. As a theoretical framework, we used Michael Pollak's debate on memory, Thompson's concepts of experience and class consciousness, James da Costa Batista's dissertation – From the Blackboard to the Struggle, and the undergraduate thesis of Arthur Viana Aguiar.
