Resumo
The present work aimed to develop a traction unit for manual wheelchairs with an
embedded system. With a mechanical device it was possible to attach a traction unit to the
wheelchair that made it possible to move and with the help of a mobile application it was
possible to signal panic and locate the wheelchair user. Initially, the theoretical basis for the
development of this work will be presented: medical and scientific concept of paraplegia,
locomotion of an individual with low mobility, study on motors, sensors, energy management,
atmega328 microcontroller and bluetooth communication networks. In addition, the location
can be sent to a relative or friend and follow the route via the app. Subsequently, the steps and
materials necessary for the construction of the traction unit, monitoring, are presented, followed
by a detailed description of the experiment, tools used and implementation of what was
mentioned. Finally, the data obtained were observed in the autonomy tests with the best result
of 37.04 km, with an average speed of 10 km/h. The panic button sent the location via SMS to
the contact registered in the application and the satisfaction survey confirmed that the prototype
developed meets the proposed requirements when helping the displacement of a person with
low mobility in outdoor environments.
