Resumo
One of the types of vessels responsible for supplying the interior of Amazonas
are ferryboats, typical vessels in the region focused on transporting cargo and passengers
in the state. However, they are vessels of low complexity and low technological content,
using empirical knowledge for their development, as in the choice of the propeller. There fore, the objective of this article was to evaluate the method, unknown by the shipowner,
used to select the present propulsive system and compare with the results obtained, th rough the regression polynomial of the Systematic Series of Wageningen B, respecting the
shipowner’s financial limitations. In addition, the resistance to the advance of the ferry
was analyzed, as well as the cavitation criteria and, finally, the hull-engine-propeller inte gration. The results obtained proved the imprecise dimensioning of the propeller provided
to the shipowner when finding a 15% more efficient propeller that would increase the ope rating speed by 1 knot. Through a financial analysis, it was shown that the investment
in the new thrusters can be paid off in a year by saving fuel with the exchange and then
the vessel will return a profit of 9% of the amount currently spent on diesel per trip.
