Resumo
This work, themed “Raising Awareness about Water Use: An Environmental Education Experience in a Floodplain School,” investigates how the topic of water is addressed in Geography classes, as well as the conservation practices developed in the school environment and the students' level of awareness regarding the conscious use of this natural resource. The study sought to understand how the process of forming a critical environmental awareness occurs among students, considering the sociocultural context in which they are embedded. The research was conducted at the Gláucio Bentes Gonçalves Municipal School, located in the Paraná do Espírito Santo do Meio community, in the rural area of the municipality of Parintins/AM, a floodplain region strongly influenced by the Amazon River. Theoretical support was provided by authors such as Carvalho (2011) and Jacaúna (2020), Bouguerra (2004) and Barlow (2009), Edgar Morin (2001), and Leonardo Boff (2012). The methodology adopted was qualitative in nature, through a case study, aiming to understand how the theme of water is being addressed in the aforementioned school. As a research technique, a discussion circle was conducted, allowing direct contact between the researcher and the research subjects. The results indicate that, being a school located on the banks of the Amazon River, the theme of water is present in various pedagogical practices; however, the need for Environmental Education to be developed permanently, continuously, and integrated into the school curriculum is evident, strengthening students' awareness and commitment to the preservation of water resources.
