Resumo

The shipbuilding industry encompasses all activities related to the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of vessels and maritime structures. This includes the manufacturing of ships, boats, offshore platforms, naval and port equipment, as well as naval engineering, design, logistics, and maritime transportation services. The development of the shipbuilding industry in Brazil was strongly influenced by government policies, development plans, specific legislation, financial incentives, and subsidies provided by the Brazilian state. The expansion of the naval sector has resulted in job creation, the need for specialized labor, and the economic and technological advancement of directly impacted regions. Investments in research and development in the naval sector have led to the introduction of related courses at universities, as they play a fundamental role in national technological development and drive the creation of solutions for the challenges faced by the industry. According to the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), there are currently six universities in Brazil offering undergraduate programs in naval engineering: the University of São Paulo (USP), the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA), and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The introduction of the naval engineering course in Amazonas took place in 2013. The course also emerges as a consequence of the decentralization of the industry, which was previously concentrated in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where the main shipyards and companies in the sector were located, demonstrating the importance of adapting academic training to regional demands. This proposal aims to evaluate the impacts that the naval engineering course in the state of Amazonas has had on the regional market. To this end, a data collection will be carried out on the current local market, based on the number of professionals graduated from the university, job creation for naval engineers, and their adherence to the market.
