Resumo

One of the main objectives of teaching Portuguese is to prepare the student to deal with language and its various situations of use and manifestations, including aesthetics. The development of linguistic knowledge implies written production in standard language, analysis and manipulation of the structural organization of the language and the perception of different languages. Throughout this work, we cite authors who deal with linguistic variation and discuss linguistic varieties, a topic that is increasingly present in the school environment, especially in Portuguese language classes. The research was based on the need to talk about the subject, and also to show the possibility of teaching that respects the differences and variations that a language has. That said, the general objective of the research is to investigate how teachers can deal with linguistic variation in Portuguese language classes. There is prejudice and judgment of speaking “right and wrong”. The guiding questions point to the possibility for Portuguese language teachers to develop diversified activities using linguistic variations in their classes, also the application of textual production workshops can facilitate the work with these variations, and the texts produced by students in production workshops can contribute to the valorization of formal and non-formal writing. The results show that teachers can deal with linguistic variation in the classroom.
