Resumo
Bearing in mind that Brazil’s momentary scenario puts literature (also children’s) in tension,
because of the cultural war encouraged by rulers of different sections of power, the universe
of children's books is researched in a transgressor context, in order to debate the importance
of “taboo” themes in children's literature, defending children's ability to understand the world.
For this purpose, at first, this monograph proposes to investigate theoretical framework on
childhood and children's literature, tracing its historical panoramas and making a return to the
author's childhood – this rescue is necessary to understand oneself in a reading childhood and
understand the reasons that bring him close to books. From then on, in a second moment, this
work aims to define “transgression” in society and in children's books, believing in the
potential of texts that provide restlessness amid the countless meanings of the world. In a third
moment, the objective is to identify possible children's literature books that contemplate
themes emerging from society, highlighting subjects such as black protagonism, refugees, sex
education, gender identity, mourning, consumerism and authoritarianism. Takes place then all
the way, a hermeneutic research, of an interpretive nature, where this interpretation is directly
related to the worldview built through previous experiences. In view of that, it appears that,
with the survey of titles, different national and international “transgressive readings” are being
published. in addition, openness to themes that generate more questions than ready-made
answers not only provide good conversations, but also re-signify the reader's relationship with
the world, generating empathy, which imposes the observation that children's literature with
character transgressors are necessary and current, largely because of contemporary
transformations that require understanding and commitment to social causes.
