Resumo
This study aims to answer the question: What is the current state of the art regarding
the scientific production of the main contributing factors for the emergence of Burnout syndrome in
nursing professionals in the emergency area in Brazil? Methodology: This is an integrative
literature review. The search was conducted between April and July 2024 in the BVS,
PubMed/Medline, SciELO, and BDENF databases. Included studies were full-text articles available
online, published in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, and within the timeframe of 2019 to 2024.
Results: Six articles met the inclusion criteria. All analyzed studies were quantitative or qualitative
with a cross-sectional design. These studies highlighted that Burnout Syndrome among nursing
professionals is directly linked to work overload, extended shifts, high emotional demands, and lack
of organizational support, which are common characteristics of emergency and urgent care
environments. Conclusion: Burnout Syndrome poses a significant challenge in nursing, especially
in high-pressure contexts. This study provided a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to
this condition, underscoring the need for effective prevention and intervention strategies. Such
measures should address both the individual level, promoting resilience and self-care, and the
organizational level, fostering better working conditions and psychological support.
