Resumo

This study aims to analyze the profile of youth and adult education students of a school in the municipal public school system, as well as the cultural and social condition, the factors that hamper the learning process and the importance of the modality in the life of the teaching. The research is qualitative, being field and bibliographical with a focus on the life trajectory of the students of the EJA and was carried out in a group of the first segment in the Municipal School Abílio Nery, located in the western zone of Manaus. In the methodological perspective, we used two instruments: the interview, with students and the pedagogue of the school, and questionnaires for students and a teacher, aiming at the accomplishment and analysis of the data collection. Through the results of the research, mainly related to the theoretical background of Paulo Freire, Miguel Arroyo, among other references, it is emphasized that the EJA has an audience with diverse specificities. On the one hand, those who are returning to the school environment late according to the standard age, the lack of access to school space, the need to enter the world of work early. On the other hand, a young public with a history of repetitions and dropouts, raising the rate of dropout, referring to political, social and educational reflections.
