Resumo
The present article is about the work The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, and presents a
much-discussed theme of significant impact today: post-modernity, which has brought about
constant changes in humanity. Bringing this issue to the research field is relevant to know
and reflect about this new process that contemporary society is experiencing. The general
objective of the research was to represent the aspects of post-modernity in the literary novel
The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka. To reach the goal, besides the analytical and systematic
reading of the work, Bauman (2001, 2005) and Hall (2005) were used as theoretical
references as fundamental theoreticians for the comprehension of the elements that are
present in the post-modern society. The methodology used was a qualitative, bibliographical
approach. As for the results, through analytical reading, we identified some elements that
are characteristics of the post-modernity paradigm in Kafka's work, among them, the
transformation of the identity of the post-modern subject, who does not have a fixed identity.
Other elements refer to consumerism and individualism, illustrated by the neglect of the
relatives of the Kafka character, which generated a feeling of fear, insecurity, sadness, and abandonment in Gregor Samsa. All these aspects present in post-modern society make
personal relationships increasingly fragmented.
