Resumo
The present work aimed to analyze the ability of students in the 3rd year of elementary school, in a public school in Manaus, to solve gender issues such as poem, comic strips, invitations and posters from the descriptors of the Portuguese language. The specific objectives were based on whether the students understood the different meanings employed in the proposed questions: interpret if the students can make inferences from questions with comic strips, posters, poems and invitations from the graphic material and understanding their purpose. For the construction of the theoretical framework, we used as basis for the analysis performed Manguel (1997), Chartier (2011) Kleiman (1999; 2004; 2005), Antunes (2009), Solé (1998), Rojo (2009), and Soares (2004; 2010). Field research was carried out with elementary students in a public school in the south-central zone of Manaus. A quali-quantitative work methodology was used from the data analysis performed in the field research, with the application of a test for quantitative analysis of the results and subsequent discussion of the obtained data. The research reaffirmed the importance of reading textual genres in the school linked to the perspective of multiple literacy, and showed that even students having contact with the various textual genres still have difficulties in solving questions related to them.
