Perfil epidemiológico e abordagem terapêutica das doenças ácido- pépticas em um hospital de Manaus/AM

Abstract

Acid-peptic diseases represent a significant public health problem due to their high prevalence and potential for severity. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of acid-peptic disorders and map the therapeutic profile established in users treated at the Adriano Jorge Hospital Foundation (FHAJ) in Manaus/AM. An applied, descriptive, retrospective, and quantitative study was conducted, based on the analysis of secondary data from 80 hospital medical records for the year 2025. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Amazonas State University (UEA) under opinion No. 8.432.751. The sample showed a predominance of females (67.5%) and elderly individuals aged 60 years and older (47.5%). The presence of comorbidities was documented in 47.5% of patients, with emphasis on Systemic Arterial Hypertension (36.3%) and Diabetes Mellitus (13.8%). Smoking was identified in 25% of cases and alcoholism in 22.5%. Gastritis was the most prevalent disorder (61.3%), followed by gastroesophageal reflux disease (25%) and dyspepsia (23.8%). Regarding the therapeutic approach, the hegemony of isolated pharmacological treatment was evidenced (86.3%) over management by Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (13.8%). Among the prescribed drugs, Proton Pump Inhibitors were unanimous, with pantoprazole leading clinical choices (46.3%), followed by omeprazole (27.5%) and esomeprazole (18.8%). It is concluded that the local epidemiological profile is characterized by women and the elderly with high rates of comorbidities and vulnerability to gastritis, assisted by an essentially drug-based model focused on pantoprazole, providing parameters for nursing healthcare planning and the qualification of evidence-based care within the Amazonian reality.
