Resumo
This article aimed to analyse the impact of Brazilian trade opening policies promoted in
the late 80s, until 1995, on the Eletrical and Eletronic Sector of Manaus Industrial Sector in order to
understand the consequences of later policies for this sector, which is of vital importance to both de PIM
as for the Amazonas economy. To this end, a joint analysis of Brazilian international trade (through its
indicators), the electrical and electronic sector (by the SUFRAMA PIMs permonace indicators), and
international trade theories was made. It was observed that the PIM’s Eletrical and Eletronic Sector is
on a thin line, sensitive to slight variations on the level of competition generated by an increase in the
degree of trade openness, especially through imports, and its main indicators affected the sector’s level
of revenues and employability. Drastic changes in Brazilian international trade policies may cause
companies to flee to other states or countries, given the poor logistical conditions and low need for
human capital to produce these types of goods.
