Toada (letra e música) e história: a canção como ferramenta de recuperação e manutenção da memória dos bois-bum-bás de Parintins

Abstract

The following work is the result of analyses of the songs, official or not, produced in the Parintins bull festivals, Caprichoso and Garantido. It aims to identify moments, places, and especially performers who helped build the history of the bumbás (bull festivals) and who are recorded in the songs. This work used bibliographic research such as Cardoso (2013), Cavalcanti (2000), Rodrigues (2006), Silveira and Sena (2021), Valentin and Cunha (1998; 1999 and 2005), which deal with the subject related to the boi-bumbá festival, and Napolitano (2005), which addresses the process of construction of Brazilian music in the popular sphere. In addition, interviews were conducted with older people who lived with, and more recent people who did not have this experience with, these early performers. In this sense, the aim was to analyze the song as a historical, cultural, and social product, and, above all, as a tool for recovering and maintaining the memories of the Parintins bull festivals.
