Luta e movimento indígena: trajetória histórica de vida de Ailton Krenak

Abstract

This research consists of a reflection and reconstruction of part of the historical trajectory of Ailton Krenak and the Krenak people. It focuses on the period that encompasses the Brazilian redemocratization process, however, making some insertions into the antecedents of this context. The aim was to reflect on the historical significance of the achievements of the indigenous peoples of Brazil during the 1988 Constituent Assembly, in view of the oppression suffered by these peoples during the military regime. The impacts of the 1988 Constituent Assembly on the figures who led the struggles of the indigenous peoples during the drafting of the aforementioned Magna Carta were analyzed, especially Ailton Krenak, an indigenous environmentalist leader born in the middle of the Doce River in Minas Gerais. The purpose of this final course work is to bring to the discussion the traumatic experience of violence against the indigenous peoples so that it is not forgotten and that the exceptional work of countless indigenous and non-indigenous leaders in the aforementioned political situation is recorded, specifically, on what the Federal Constitution guarantees as rights to the indigenous peoples of Brazil. The research shows that the nature of the oppression suffered in the pre-1988 period is more sinister and more violent than one might suppose, not only being about territorial violence, but in the construction of a project of ethnic extinction, at the same time, it is also noticeable that figures like Krenak were essential in interrupting the cycle of exclusion and marginalization suffered by indigenous peoples.
