Gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos na cidade de Parintins/AM: políticas, estratégias e intervenções

Abstract

The research on solid waste management in Parintins/AM was motivated by the need to better understand the management processes in a municipality with unique characteristics, such as the Folklore Festival and a growing population. Solid waste management is a global challenge, but local peculiarities require personalized strategies. The National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) reinforces the importance of minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainability. The methodology used combined bibliographic research with collection of primary and secondary data from the bodies responsible for collecting and managing solid waste in the city of Parintins, thus employing quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data was collected through questionnaires and direct observations, involving agencies such as SEMOSP, SEDEMA and ASCALPIN, allowing a comprehensive view of local practices and challenges. The results show that, despite selective collection initiatives and awareness campaigns promoted by SEMOSP, SEDEMA and ASCALPIN, substantial challenges persist, such as the lack of infrastructure for composting and treating healthcare waste. The research concludes that it is essential to invest in infrastructure improvements, expand environmental education and encourage more effective collaboration between the government, companies and the community to face waste management problems. Such actions are crucial to developing a more efficient and sustainable management system, ensuring a positive environmental impact and a superior quality of life for the inhabitants of Parintins.
