Resumo
The city of Parintins is a municipality located in the State of Amazonas, internationally known for its bois-bumbás, which helped it to receive the title of “Capital of Culture and Folklore of Amazonas”. During the event, the existence of a reinforcement in the staff structure of several public agencies is noted to be improved or service reopens only during the event. Whoever comes to visit, believes that Parintins has a great and perennial structure. However, outside the period surrounding the Festival, Parintins shows itself to be a city with a reality that is often paradoxical to what is seen during the party. right after the party closes, many demands are no longer met, for example, daily water rationing during the night and sporadic power supply rationing, that is, outside the period surrounding the Festival, Parintins is a city with a reality often paradoxical to what is seen during the party. Part of the city is revitalized annually in the period leading up to the Festival, to make the city ready for the show. Meanwhile, the other neighborhoods are neglected, made invisible, left to receive repairs later, when they receive them. However, even in this embellished Parintins, there are places that are a reflection of the diversion of public funds and do not make up this ideal city. This is the case of the ruined building of the Casa da Cultura, a large “white elephant” located a few meters from the Bumbódromo, and because it is in the “view” part of the city and because of its size, since it occupies almost an entire block, needed be invisible and silenced by billboards with colorful advertisements for the event.
