Resumo
This paper aims to investigate what kind of training 9th grade Portuguese language
teachers need for innovative classroom practice. Aiming to highlight the importance of continuing
training for teaching praxis, to transcribe the necessary qualities for an innovative teacher, to identify
the teacher training programs offered to 9th grade teachers in the last three years, to investigate with
teachers their difficulties in continuing their studies and to list the consequences of the lack of continuing
training for 9th grade Portuguese language teachers. The methodology adopted for this investigation
was based on bibliographical research, based on theorists such as Moreira (2002), Souza (2008), Moran
(2015), Camargo (2018), Farias Filho (2015), Gil (1999) and Severino (2010) and field research, using
qualitative research and the questionnaire as a data collection instrument, which was carried out in a
public school in the city of Tefé-AM, targeting 05 educators of this modality. The results were analyzed
descriptively, showing that the educational systems do not offer continuing education courses to their
teachers. As a result, since the teachers don’t have support to keep reaching education, the teachers are
unable to update their knowledge and apply active methodologies in the teaching of Portuguese
Language.
