Memórias de junho: as quadrilhas em Parintins

Abstract

Quadrilhas (traditional folk dance groups) perform during the Parintins Folklore Festival an event that precedes the rivalry between the Bois-Bumbás (folk ox-themed dance troupes) known as Caprichoso and Garantido. Organized by the municipal government with support from the State Government of Amazonas, these performances currently take place at the Sila Marçal Amphitheater. They are part of a cultural contest, with groups competing based on criteria such as musicality, costumes, choreography, and thematic content. The presence of these quadrilhas sets the stage for the bois, keeping local cultural traditions alive and celebrating this style of folk dance in a vibrant, competitive manner. I present interviews and recollections from Mr. Reinaldo de Souza and Mr. Evaldo Apolonio da Silva, who share insights into the history of these quadrilhas and the origins of the Parintins Folklore Association for Quadrilhas and Dances (ADASPIN).
