Thermal comfort is defined by ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating,
and Air-Conditioning Engineers) as: “A mental condition that expresses satisfaction with the
thermal conditions of the environment that is subjectively evaluated by the individual”.
Shopping Centers These are places where people expect to have good thermal comfort and with
that to have an excellent experience in the Enterprise.
The present work aims to diagnose a cooling system by chiller in order to improve the
Thermal Efficiency of the System, analyzing all the components of the system, from the
production of chilled water, to the air outlet in the diffusers. First, a study will be carried out on
each component to parameterize the function and importance of the proper functioning of each
block of the Refrigeration system. The second step consists of inspecting each component in
order to compare project values x actual values measured through electronic devices and the
Chillers telemetry system. After the second stage, a temperature analysis will be carried out in
the Mall to understand the critical points of the Enterprise, the fourth stage will consist of
calculating the thermal load in the area with the highest temperature.
After the analyzes carried out, it was possible to diagnose that the thermal load installed
is not enough to meet the demand of the square (most critical point after the temperature
analysis), in addition to the thermal load, the sum of the return areas is lower than necessary,
loss was found load in the supply due to the dimension of the flexible ducts, as well as leaks in
the supply ducts. The economic feasibility was carried out for the implementation of more fans
in the food court as well as the replacement of the Vat model Diffusers for the Due model.
