Resumo
The main objective of this paper is to measure and evidence the intermunicipal inequality in the State
of Amazonas. Addressing the economic and social aspects as determining factors of the historical
disparities observed in the municipalities. For this, we used socioeconomic data from the 62
municipalities for analysis and composition of indexes that demonstrate the economic, social and
human conditions of each municipality and, thus, compose a Global Index of Socioeconomic Well Being (IGBESE) that summarizes these values in only one indicator that expresses the general living
conditions of the population. The results indicate that Parintins (0.87), Manaus (0.83) and São
Sebastião do Uatumã (0.81) are the municipalities in best socioeconomic conditions in Amazonas.
However, Barcelos (0.47), Atalaia do Norte (0.48) and Japurá (0.47) are the most precarious
municipalities in terms of housing conditions, education and public health.
