Resumo

Manaus, during part of its history had its economy marked by extractivism. But, between the end of the 50’s and 60’s, the Manaus Free Trade Zone and its base, the Manaus Industrial Pole, emerged as a way to increase the development of the region. In Brazil, concern for the well-being of industry employees began to emerge with the advent of the Consolidation of Labor Laws in 1943, which prompted the creation of several other standards based on occupational health and safety. This paper sought to present Regulatory Standard-09 on the Environmental Risk Prevention Program (PPRA) in a small metallurgical company focusing on chemical fumes, mineral oil, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, that was necessary to choose a sector and make a qualitative analysis of the environment and then a quantitative analysis through sampling and laboratory analysis to verify workers’ exposure to these chemicals. Samples were collected and analyzed using different techniques, depending on the agent, resulting in an average concentration of 0,028 mg/m3 aluminum, 0,034 mg/m3 copper e 0,0432 mg/m3 iron, 0,349 mg/m3 mineral oil, 0 ppm carbon monoxide and 786 ppm carbon dioxide. No exceedance of the tolerance limits imposed by the standards was observed, indicating that the industry has a satisfactory working environment where employees perform their duties safely and without unhealthiness.
