I conducted the research at the Municipal School Nossa Senhora das Graças, involving 15 seventh-grade students. The methodology included practical activities such as fruit collection walks, discussion circles to explore popular knowledge, and the creation of a carpoteca. The results showed that students possess rich prior knowledge about the medicinal and nutritional uses of fruits, which were deepened and valued within the school context. Additionally, students learned scientific concepts about fruit morphology in a meaningful way. I concluded that integrating popular and school knowledge enriches learning, strengthens students' cultural identity, and promotes more contextualized and relevant education. I recommend adopting these practices in other subjects to create a stronger connection between formal education and students' life experiences.
