Resumo
The article, through a qualitative study, seeks to understand how the relationship of the
academics of the Letters course at Cest/Uea with the reading and interpretation of texts. The
reading understood here follows the perspective of Paulo Freire (1988), who states that, more
than decoding graphic signs, the act of reading has the function of reading the world around us.
For that, a bibliographical research and a field research were carried out. The field research was
