This work presents “Hair Chemistry” as a theme to be contextualized
with content related to chemistry teaching, developing students' participation and
motivation in classrooms, considering that difficulties in learning chemistry
occur through the mechanization of abstraction of concepts and formulas, resulting in classes
uninteresting for students. The proposed topic Chemistry in hair will help with the content
Chemical bonds considering that hair structures have disulfide bonds,
hydrogen and ionic bonds, and which undergo changes after chemical procedures. A
proposal presented works on teaching chemistry through a transversal theme which is the
health, which according to the National Curricular Parameters (PCN’s) is a topic that should be
inserted in school curricula, as it contributes to citizenship training and
field of knowledge. The chosen methodology uses the sequence inspired by the approach
CTS, presented by Teixeira (2003) which follows five steps: 1) Social issue introduced;
2) A technology related to the topic is analyzed; 3) The scientific content is worked on; 4)
Technology is studied depending on the content, and 5) Resumption of the social issue. From
of the methodology used, the results were: Relating chemistry in hair with the Teaching of
Chemical; Show the composition of the hair structure and its divisions, as well as the connections
chemicals present in the hair; Inform about the risks of allergies and harmful damage to
health due to excessive and inappropriate use of chemical hair products; And validate the use of
educational booklet as a teaching resource in Chemistry Teaching.
In this sense, the theme of Chemistry in hair proves to be efficient with regard to
contextualization of content with issues relevant to society, once presented to the
thematic through topics such as: hair structure, coloring, straightening and health risks,
issues encountered in the daily lives of many students.
