Resumo
The present researche addresses the theme of mathematics in Educação de Jovens e
Adultos (EJA), focusing on the perspectives of teachers and students of a specific class at a
public school in Tefé - AM. The research problem is related to the way mathematics teaching
and learning are conducted in EJA, which often neglect students' life experiences and informal
knowledge, resulting in a disconnect between formal mathematics and students' sociocultural
reality. The guiding questions are aimed at understanding the difficulties and challenges faced
by educators and students in teaching and learning mathematics in EJA. The justification for
the study lies in the fact that this teaching modality faces challenges in relation to mathematics
education, and it is essential to understand the difficulties and views of students and teachers
about teaching mathematics in this modality. In addition, we sought to explore the negative or
positive effects that the approach to mathematics can have on EJA. The theoretical foundation
covers concepts of pedagogical practices, highlighting the importance of actions that promote
the construction of knowledge by students and the need to adapt these practices to the reality of
EJA. The research aims to understand the perceptions of teachers and students about the
teaching of mathematics, providing elements that contribute to a reflection, aiming at improving
the teaching of mathematics in EJA
