Resumo
The present work of conclusion of course whose subject is Dry Lives and Death and Life
Severina: a comparative study proposes to make an analysis comparing two
works of the canon of Brazilian literature: Vidas Secas e Morte e Vida Severina, which
portray the life of the backcountry Nordestino. The research is bibliographic and
comparative, in which convergent points will be explained in contexts of the works
in question. The general objective of this research was to compare literary works from
aspects of language, geographic, historical, socio-ideological issues. The
specific objectives: to analyze characteristics of the hinterland reality from Vidas
Secas, by Graciliano Ramos e Morte e Vida Severina by João Cabral de Melo Neto;
identify the similarities between the works Vidas Secas, by Graciliano Ramos and Morte
and Vida Severina by João Cabral de Melo Neto; understand the importance of these
works for Brazilian literature. The methodology was guided by the deductive method,
bibliographic research and the comparative method, according to Almeida (2011);
Gil (2002); Coutinho (1978) and Cândido (2011); Carvalhal & Coutinho (1994); Andrade
(1972), among others. Thus, it seeks to understand beyond social life, the
language, geographical and historical issues that the works attribute and the marks of
style of each author.
