Monopolos magnéticos e a quantização da carga elétrica

Abstract

This work deals with the magnetic monopoles and the quantization of the electric charge. We will present a way to justify the quantization of the electric charge by making use of the theoretical prediction of the British physicist Paul Audrien Maurice Dirac of the existence of the magnetic charge. In order to do so, we will discuss the existence of an asymmetry in Maxwell's equations, as well as the way of detecting a magnetic monopole, as well as the interaction of magnetic monopoles with matter. The last section brings an analysis of the result obtained from the calculations reported in Appendix A, which in turn treats the calculation of the total angular momentum of the system known as the Thonson dipole.
