Conflitos entre seringueiros e índios na Amazônia: o caso dos Ashninka no alto Juruá e dos Apurinã no médio purus.

Abstract

In the context of the rubber economy, the aim is to analyze the conflicts between rubber tappers and indigenous people during the expansion of the rubber plantations, through two cases: the Ashaninka in upper Juruá and the Apurinã in the middle Purus. In this sense, the aim is to clarify the conflicts between the main agents of the exploited territory (rubber tappers and indigenous people). Comparative documentary methodology was used to answer the following questions: How were the conflicts between the rubber tappers and the indigenous people during the expansion of the rubber plantations? What do the texts tell about this? What problems did this expansion cause for the Indians? It was noticed that the conflicts and their results, in both cases, have specificities. In the first case, the Ashaninka became allies of the rubber tappers, forming alliances, receiving weapons and ammunition to defend the rubber plantations of other indigenous groups. In the second case, the Apurinã went to war with the rubber tappers and were consequently incorporated into the rubber plantations, working on the extraction of the syringe.
