Resumo

Brazil has a great competitive advantage in the economic scenario due to its large reserve of natural resources. Therefore, water resource management is essential to ensure sustainable economic and social development. Thus, knowledge and quantification of water demand linked to the production chain are fundamental to the Brazilian reality, since the availability of withdrawal and return flows from industrial plants are scarce. So, the objective of this work was to determine the demand for water withdrawal, consumption, and effluent discharge by the Manaus industries, using the water user records. For that, we used the IPAAM (Institute for Amazonian Environmental Protection Institute) and the CNARH (National Register of Water Resources Users) of the National Water Agency (ANA). We also use to the Profile of Companies with Projects approved by SUFRAMA and Performance Indicators of Manaus Industrial Pole. From the data obtained from IPAAM, only 134 records presented the complete record, divisions 30 (manufacture of other transport equipment except motor vehicles), division 22 (manufacture of rubber and plastics products) and division 26 (manufacture of the computers products, electronics and optical products), are the sectors that demand the most water in their activities, and together correspond to 2.103.593 m3.year-1, which represents 47,4% of the total demand, in the industrial sector, and by CNARH we found 258 complete records, being it was possible observed that divisions 23 (non-metallic mineral product manufacturing), 11 (beverage manufacturing), 22 (rubber and plastic product manufacturing) and 26 (computer equipment manufacturing, electronic and optical products) are the sectors that most demand water in their activities, and together correspond to 7.213.258 m3.year-1, which represents 60,1% of the total demand.
