In the city of Tefé - AM the African Dance is considered a “folk” dance and
“Traditional” within a cultural context, mainly because it is one of the most
main dances to participate in the Tefé Folk Festival. However dance does not
it's just part of a show, it's a representation of Afro-Brazilian culture
in a space where the indigenous and colonial matrices overlap. This study

(re) means culture and the black presence in this region. The main objective was
unveil the meaning of dance for the social actors involved directly or
indirectly, through their memories, narratives and choreographic creations. The
data were collected during the years 2018 and 2019, during meetings, trials and
presentations by the group of players, fans and supporters, whose analysis had
as a reference and theoretical framework the debate on performance concepts. THE
researcher is a member of the dance group, and recorded oral reports to reflect on
dialogical way about the meanings woven in each stage of the preparation and
execution of this collective performance that was elaborated in a context in which
African roots hybridize with others, especially indigenous ones.
