Resumo
This study investigates the practice of "benzeção" in Tefé-AM, analyzing its processes of resignification as a complex and dynamic phenomenon, exploring the trajectories and rituals of the
"benzedores" (those who perform the benzeção). The terms "benzer," "benzeção," "benzimento," and
"benzedura" were used interchangeably to describe ancestral spiritual healing practices present in
Brazilian culture. A qualitative approach was used with a focus on Oral History with three "benzedores."
According to Cordeiro (2017), Cunha (2018), Friedrich (2012), Silva (2010a, 2013), and Trindade
(2011, 2015), the practices of "benzedores" are fundamental in preserving and promoting "benzeção,"
thus maintaining the local culture within the context in which these individuals are embedded. By
recognizing the dimensions of the "benzimento" practice, this research provides an appreciation and
awareness of the relevance of this ritual in shaping the identities of "benzedores." This study delves into
the experiences, beliefs, and spiritual practices of "benzedores" Maria, Mesquita, and Milton. By
exploring these individuals' convictions, the research proposes an interconnection between healing,
"benzimento," and their prayers. The individual trajectories of "benzedores" highlight the diversity of
experiences and beliefs present in this context. "Benzedores" offer unique contributions to
understanding the transformations of "benzeção" over time. These trajectories of diversity, experiences,
and beliefs emphasize the interaction between faith, spiritual practice, and individual needs.
