Resumo

To identify factors that corroborate the association between the kangaroo method and breastfeeding in PTNBs in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Method: A cross-sectional study with a qualitative and quantitative approach, carried out in a reference Maternity Hospital located in the city of Manaus-AM, in which 24 mothers of neonates admitted to the NICU, inserted in the first or second phase of the Kangaroo method, between the months of December and January 2023 and 2024, participated in the research. Data was collected through interviews using a questionnaire which was then analyzed, typed up and tabulated in Microsoft Excel 2016. Results: As for the profile: young adult women aged between 21-36 years (58.3%), in a stable union (58.3%), with a medium level of schooling (33.3%), and mostly with a low income (41.6%) without paid jobs (50%) with their own or rented home (33.3%) with 1-3 rooms (58.3%). Individual habits: No use of alcohol, tobacco or illicit drugs, no physical activity, adequate weight during pregnancy and no high blood pressure. Conclusion: The study revealed vulnerable social contexts that impact on adherence to knowledge and the maintenance of unhealthy habits. As a result, weaknesses were identified in the care provided to these women in the context of prematurity, in encouraging and providing adequate guidance on breastfeeding and in practicing the Kangaroo method
