Class I and Class II malocclusions are the occlusal alterations that have a higher prevalence in the sagittal sense in the orthodontic clinic. In the elaboration of the treatment plan, several factors should be considered, including the limit of expansion that each dental arch can suffer. This amount of expansion should be based on characteristics of the dental arch. The objective of this work was to evaluate the horizontal distance between the inferior posterior teeth and the WALA ridge and perform the comparison between the groups. We used 40 dental cats regarding orthodontic documentation of amazonian subjects with malocclusions of Class I (n = 20) and Class II (n = 20). The mean distances from FA points to the WALA ridge in the subjects Class I were, in the tooth 37 (2,46mm), 36 (1,68mm), 35 (0,78mm), 34 (0,30mm), 44 (0,35mm), 45 (0,84mm), 46 (1,62mm) e 47 (2,37mm); alredy in the mean distances from FA points to the WALA ridge in the Class II subjects were, in the tooth 37 (2,52mm), 36 (1,60mm), 35 (0,81mm), 34 (0,36mm), 44 (0,33mm), 45 (0,71mm), 46 (1,70mm) e 47 (2,47mm). No statistically significant differences were found between the groups evaluated
