Resumo
Interest in large-scale production of edible mushrooms has increased, thus increasing the
interest in cost-effective cultivation using alternative culture media. Due to the ability to
colonize a wide variety of materials, species of the genus Pleurotus can be artificially cultivated
in substrates formulated from agro-industrial residues for different biotechnological purposes.
Thus, this work aims to evaluate the viability of angelim sawdust for mycelial growth and the
production of proteases of the species Pleurotus djamor and Pleurotus eryngii. For cultivation,
angelim sawdust was weighed and mixed with wheat or corn bran (nutritional supplement) at
concentrations of 0, 20 and 30%. The cultures remained at 25ºC for 18 days. Growth
measurement was performed every 24 hours after 72 hours of inoculation. After the end of the
evaluation of mycelial growth and vigor, the evaluation of the quantitative activity of proteases
was carried out. The greatest growth and mycelial vigor for the P. djamor species occurred in
18 days of growth in the treatment supplemented with 20% wheat bran, which had an average
growth speed of 0.05 cm/day, being faster than the other treatments tested than obtained: 10.5
cm (supplemented with 30% wheat bran), 8.7 cm (20 and 30% corn bran supplementation) and
6.2 cm (sawdust only). The highest values obtained occurred in substrates with the addition of
wheat bran, which positively influenced growth, mycelial vigor and protease activity, as they
expressed higher average activities of 4.55 U/mL (30%) and 3, 68 U/mL (20%), when compared
to other treatments, where treatments with addition of corn bran obtained 1.78 U/mL (20%) and
0.67 U/mL (30%). The treatment without the addition of bran obtained an average of 3.20 U/mL
in the enzymatic activity. Thus, the addition of wheat bran was viable for greater growth and
mycelial vigor, as well as for the enzymatic activity for the species P. djamor. Experiments
with the species P. eryngii are still ongoing.
