Resumo

This paper describes the analysis of an experiment in teacher training conducted in a three year period - 2008/2009/2010 - involving two municipalities in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. Demonstrative training workshops, focused on climate change, were performed engaging 1.081 teachers who worked in schools of basic education from 5 th to 9 th year of elementary school and high school. The research had a qualitative and quantitative approach to analyze the data with the triangulation of the responses given by 16 teachers, 24 students and two management teams of selected schools, one in Manaus and another in the town of Iranduba. Research methodology selected was based on literature review and analysis, and field survey, through questionnaires, focus groups and interviews, constituting a field of research that encompassed contributions and implications of training workshops for teachers based on a government initiative. The results of the research, beyond the evaluation of workshops, culminated in the structuring of a proposal for continued education for teachers in the environmental context.
