Representações sobre o gênero feminino no jornal Novo Horizonte (1994-2014)

Abstract

The present research aims to understand how the Catholic Church constituted the “role” of women from Parin in the 1990s (20th century) and early years of the 21st century, and how the debates about what the newspaper conventionally called the “issue” took place. feminine” (marriage, health and abortion) by the Catholic Church in the analyzed period. We sought to highlight the representations of women in the urbanization process of Parintins in the pages of the newspaper Novo Horizonte that circulated weekly in the city from 1994 to 2014. Through the analysis we realized that the female figure is represented differently throughout the editions of the newspaper, due to some factors, such as: the year it was published, who the authors were and what interpretation they wanted to pass on to the reader. In this sense, in most of the articles in which questions about the female gender are discussed, women are presented from a patriarchal perspective. However, as it is a vehicle of communication, it opens space for other subjects to write, authors including women, some of whom are linked to social movements.
